OBW x CostumierSaurus: Blindfold Spell for Eye-Opening
Costumier-Saurus Welcome to a new week, Witches! I am super, super, super excited to bring you this spell. I was talking with my friend, CostumierSaurus, about blindfolds, and what they represent. To me, being blinded is significant when there is something in our lives that is hidden, that we’re not seeing. Sometimes this could be someone close to us hiding something from us, or when there’s something that just doesn’t add up, and we’re looking for truth which is hiding behin

Witchcraft Wednesday: The Easiest Ever Freezer Spell
Howdy! It’s Witchcraft Wednesday and again, I wanted to offer up a spell that anybody with access to some basic white goods can do. Alternatively, it’s winter, so I imagine you could also try chucking this into a pile of snow. Let’s get into the festive spirit by getting rid of some of the bad energy coming our way. This Freeze-Out Spell is for when someone just won’t stop f*cking with your life. Maybe it’s an ex who won’t get the message, or a colleague who is talking sh*t a

Do Witches Pray?
When I was at secondary school, I was in a pretty religious environment. I went to Presbyterian and Church of England schools that brought us to chapel services weekly, had their own ministers/vicars, had compulsory religion classes and encouraged us to follow a certain doctrine. As I’ve said before, the only time I remember being really in trouble at school was when I was caught with Tarot cards and was told I was summoning the Devil. The Empress card of the Tarot deck. I di

Witchcraft Wednesday: 3 Simple Spells (No Witchy Gear Required)
Happy Witchcraft Wednesday! I’ve decided that every Wednesday, I’ll post about witchcraft, whether it’s a spell, a relaxation recording, an activity or even something crafty. The whole point of this blog is to make witchcraft more accessible every day for every person – which is why today, we’re focusing on 3 simple spells that do not require you to have an altar, ten different candles, herb bundles, resins, a wand, thirty crystals or a black cat. A person with red hair is su

Being a Solitary Witch
I’ve never been part of a coven. I’ve never even had anyone to practise with, apart from my very forgiving partner who participates with me on occasion. I can remember being a young woman of about 16, drawn completely towards witchcraft, but without any kind of access to information about it. I went to high school in a small city of about 20,000 people, where we had one bookshop which most certainly did not carry books on the occult. I was in there one day, desperately perusi

Being a ‘Good’ Witch
It’s the human condition. We all want to be the best at what we do, whether that’s work, or hobbies, or family, or just being the best cook in the family (I’m not). This idea of having to ‘do’ things properly – i.e., you can’t be a real painter unless you’ve taken classes, or you can’t be a singer because you don’t get paid to sing – is damaging. It’s damaging to creativity, it’s damaging to self-worth, and it’s damaging to the very core of what spirituality and passion, and

Coming Out of the Broom Closet
You know, it’s kind of funny for me to be talking about coming out of the closet at the age of 33. I came out as gay at about 18, and it seems like a lifetime ago. Now, I don’t even think about it, although I do have to constantly correct people who don’t know, and who assume that my partner is a man (poor Jessie). An illustration of a person riding a broom. But coming out as a Witch is something I perhaps held a little more hidden shame in. Don’t get me wrong – I am not asha

Samhain 2019: How I’m Preparing & Protecting
Happy Weekend, Witches and friends! I’ve been thinking a lot about Samhain over the past few days. I’ve been listening to Pam Grossman’s amazing podcast, The Witch Wave, and one episode in particular (#26 with author Peter Bebergal) made me think more closely about the thinning of the veil, and what happens when our ancestors are more easily able to contact us. A person with blue and green hair in the forest wears a crown of horns and a red dress. While I was on a long drive
