When You’re Spiritually Exhausted

I was listening to one of my all-time favourite podcasts, Tarot for the Wild Soul with Lindsay Mack, and she said something that really hit home with me. Well, to be honest, every episode she says something that really hits home with me. Anyway, fan-girling aside. Lindsay was talking about how tarot card reversals often indicate resistance. For example, a reversal of the Death card; perhaps we are resistant to an ending. The end is near, but we don’t want to see it. The reaso

Witchcraft Wednesday: Grounding in Isolation

Greetings, witches and friends! I bet you can’t believe it’s already Witchcraft Wednesday again. Neither can I. You lot are INSATIABLE, I tell you. Anyway, I’ve been thinking a lot about grounding lately. That yearning that we witchy folk get when it’s just been way too long since our feet touched the dirt or the sand or flowing water that wasn’t coming out of the taps in our own house. As you are well aware because I won’t stop bitching about it, we are in a (lovely) apartme

Witchcraft Wednesday: Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize

Happy Wednesday, witches and friends! It’s my favourite day of the week to share with you, because Wednesdays we wear pink and do spells. Very quickly: the One Boss Witchcast will be premiering on Spotify and Anchor this week! I’m so excited to bring it to you. Please make sure you check in and sign up for the newsletter so it gets delivered to you each week. And let me know what you want to hear about! I realise that the title of this post may be initially misleading, but le

Spirituality, Fibroids and Facing Our Mortality (Part 1)

Greetings, witches! Slight trigger warning here: discussion of mortality, of illness, of surgery and some depressing sh*t. Maybe skip this one if you’re not feeling it today. Blessings! As many of you will know, because I’ve mentioned it quite a lot, I had a surgery 2 weeks ago today. My surgery was classed as ‘elective’, but I wouldn’t really consider it that. It wasn’t cosmetic. I was in a lot of pain and discomfort, and for the past year or so, my life was severely impacte

2020 Vision

A small child wearing a knitted hat sits on a bed. A Christmas tree in the background, and presents beside them wrapped in brown paper. Greetings, Boss Witches! And I hope you all had a wonderful festive season, whether you were celebrating Yule, Hanukkah, Christmas, Saturnalia…or anything else. 2019 for me was a buster. It was a hard no from me. I had a f*cker of a time with my health starting last January, and I’m just now this month getting treatment for that (although I m

What is Manic Manifesting?

So I’m signed up to receive emails from Gabby Bernstein, who, I think we can all agree, is a bit of a f*cking inspiration, right? Anyway, the other day this email pops up, and it says, “Are you a manic manifester?”. Immediately, I thought – YES. I don’t know what that means but YES, it sounds exactly like what I am. A doorway in the midst of a messy, overcrowded wall of books. So finally I took the time to sit down and watch her video about manic manifestation, and I realised

Mercury Retrograde: A Basic Guide to the F*ckery

You may have already seen the references. You may already have seen the memes. So what the hell is Mercury Retrograde and why is everyone freaking out about it so much? What is Mercury Retrograde? Okay, so basically this means that Mercury appears to change direction of movement. It’s only an illusion – Mercury doesn’t actually start going backwards. But traditionally and in Astrology, this tends to mean that a whole bunch of things get f*cked up, including: Travel Communicat

Samhain 2019: How I’m Preparing & Protecting

Happy Weekend, Witches and friends! I’ve been thinking a lot about Samhain over the past few days. I’ve been listening to Pam Grossman’s amazing podcast, The Witch Wave, and one episode in particular (#26 with author Peter Bebergal) made me think more closely about the thinning of the veil, and what happens when our ancestors are more easily able to contact us. A person with blue and green hair in the forest wears a crown of horns and a red dress. While I was on a long drive

Sleep Hygiene: How to Get to Sleep When Your Brain is Being a D*ck

Hello, Boss Witches! Today I want to talk about how to get to sleep when your brain is being a d*ck by going a million miles an hour, reminding you of shameful things you did when you were 17, and making you mull over all of your life choices repeatedly until you consider banging your head against a wall just in case that makes you pass out for a second (please don’t do that). A person with long dark hair and wearing a grey t-shirt sleeps on a white sheet. Sleep hygiene is on

The 21 Day Abundance Challenge: From the Other Side

One of my very first posts on this site was when I was just a couple days into the 21 Day Abundance Challenge, which marries the 21 day abundance meditation course from Deepak Chopra with some daily tasks aimed at helping us take a look at ourselves, our lives, where we come from and where we’re going. GIF from “The Good Place”. I’ve been in bed ill for a couple of days so now that I’m back, I’m at the bloody last day of the 21 day challenge! What the fork? Anyway, it seemed

What to Do When Anxiety Hits and You Don’t Have Time for That Sh*t

It happens to the best of us. Anxiety is a thing that is kind of always with you. If you suffer from anxiety, whether just occasionally or on the regular, you’ll know what I’m talking about. You have mountains to do. You have a to-do list the length of the walk from the ice cream aisle back to the fresh produce. You have 11 missed calls and you haven’t even rung your mother in weeks. You are one busy Witch. And then the anxiety hits. Three colourful hourglasses. Your heart is

What’s the Deal with Crystals?

You know how we’re always talking about crystals and we see lots of imagery around chakras and crystal healing? Maybe you even joke about it? Been there. But secretly, I wanted in. I wanted to know the deal with crystals. I’m still a beginner when it comes to crystal work, but I have to tell you – they are addictive. Luckily, crystals are a super affordable habit if you have a good local supplier. That’s the best way, anyway, because I love to feel the vibes off of a tray of

Why Is Nature Walking So Satisfying?

So today we were on puppy duty for our neighbour – which only entails (:D) taking him out to stretch his legs at lunchtime. But, since we’ve been in the apartment for a few days (we both work a lot from home) we thought we’d take Hughbert out for a nice, long walk through the woods in a local nature reserve. West Yorkshire is particularly grey at the moment, and it was a muddy, bogged-down and slushy walk. But I feel a million bucks after it. Why is that? What Does Nature Do

How to Meditate When Sh*t Is Stressful

It’s all very well to say we need to meditate every day, but sometimes you just want to watch Netflix and eat crap and feel miserable in peace. Why can’t we be left alone to be miserable? Why do we have to meditate? Benefits of Meditation: A person sits high up on a hillside, looking out over a city at sunset. It relieves stress It relieves anxiety It can help you sleep It helps you figure out what’s really, truly bothering you It helps you let go of sh*t It can even lower yo

What is a Chakra?

You know how people are like, “Oh, my chakras are out of whack”, or “I need to realign my chakras”? Yeah, what are they on about? The Chopra Center describes it best as “wheels of energy throughout the body”. So this idea that different areas of the body relate to different energies in our lives is what we’re talking about when it comes to chakras. “These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles

Release What No Longer Serves You

What does that mean, exactly? This is one of those phrases that you’ll hear repeatedly if you’re dipping toes into meditation, mindfulness and general ‘new age’ energy work. But for the everyday, real person, what does it mean to ‘Release What No Longer Serves You’? A person wearing a scarf and a backpack looks out over a mountain vista. Let’s take a look at it this way. You’ve gone on a hike (well done, you!) and you have one backpack. This hike is going to take a day, and i

A Note on the Snooze Button

I have this habit, which I think is partly listening to my body, and partly my needing to dig deeper to find motivation on some days. The habit is this: I write a list for the day, and by the time I get to the afternoon, I’m exhausted. So I think, “I’m going to take a rest for a while before I get back to it”. Only I never get back to it, so in the end I don’t finish my to-do list for the day, and then my alarm for the next morning gets pulled slowly back to an earlier time.

Remaining Positive When Things Are Sh*tty

I wanted to write this post because sometimes life is just a bit sh*tty. Like work is stressful, or maybe you’re having a tough time with your family or friends, or maybe you struggle with anxiety (like me) and everything seems to be going wrong. I’m not the expert here, but I know this – it’s really, really hard to stay positive and keep that ‘abundant’ mindset when you’re in one of these phases of your life, so I wanted to share some of my top tips from personal experience.

Books for Boss Witches

I love a good Boss Witch book. Maybe I’ll write one myself one day! For now, though, here’s a list of my favourite Boss Witch (and Boss Bitch) books that have brought something positive to my life. The Modern Witchcraft Book of Tarot Skye Alexander I love reading my own tarot cards. In fact, the only time I can remember getting into trouble at school was when I got busted doing a tarot reading for someone. I went to a Presbyterian school, and the teacher went bananas. Anyway!

The 21 Day Abundance Challenge (Deepak Chopra) Days 1 & 2

Today I behold all the abundance that surrounds me. A wonderful friend introduced me to this amazing 21 day challenge. What I love about it are the following things: It all takes place via WhatsApp, which means I get reminders, I’m held accountable, it’s portable and simple to do. It holds me accountable to spend some time every single day to do something for my spirit. It takes me a maximum of 30 minutes. But in all honesty, you could do it in 20 if you’re in a pinch. It’s F
